About Us
Stuart Jameson and his wife Evvy purchased Jameson's bar, then known as the Queen's bar, in 1982. The bar was built on the orginal site of the old Queen's Hotel which played a prominant part in the history of Portadown town centre.
After an IRA bomb ripped through the centre of Portadown destroying many premises in 1993 the bar had to be completely demolished a brand new bar was errected in its place. This took a total of 2 years with the new bar (Jameson's Bar) being re-opened in 1995 replacing the original Queens Bar.
During the closure period in order to ensure that customers where catered for a smaller bar named the Queens Bar was opened just up Thomas Street a bit. This bar remained open when the new bar was opened and stayed opened right up until 2003 when the new sports bar extension was opened to the rear of Jameson's Bar.
Over the years the bar has changed dramatically and just last year (2007) it underwent a drastic facelift to bring it into the 21st century. The entire interior of the bar was revamped and replaced with modern fixtures and fittings including state of the art plasma screens and a touch screen jukebox with all the up to date chart hits donwloaded to it every week, new uniforms were introduced and new signage provided for the exterior of the building to give it a crisp, clean and fresh new look. Internet kiosks where another new additon to the bar and have proved very popular. There is a heated semi enclosed smoking area to the rear of the premises allowing those who smoke to do so in comfort and out of the rain.
Sport plays a major part in the bar and the bar plays host to two football teams (Queens Rangers of the Friday Night Owls League and Rectory Rangers of the Mid Ulster Leage). It also has two pool teams which meet on alternative Thursday nights in the bar and a darts team which meets in the bar on a friday night.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and ensure that their customers always leave wishing to return for another visit.
Friday night are party nights with resident DJ (DJ Claire) and guest DJ's doing their stuff on the decks blasting out the latest chart and dance hits keeping everyone strutting their stuff into the wee small hours
Saturday nights sees Geordie or Bossman on the mic for a good olde karaoke session. Everyone is welcome to get up and give it a try no matter how good or bad they are it is all in the nights fun.
